Milligan awards top academic scholarships
 MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (May 4, 2007) —Milligan College announced that Amanda Morrell
of Bristol, Tenn. , is the 2007 recipient of the Kenneth and Jacklyn Oosting Scholarship, the most prestigious scholarship offered by Milligan College. Morrell will receive a merit-based scholarship in the amount of $20,000 per academic year, with a four year value of $80,000.
Morrell was one of five finalists for this top freshman scholarship honor. The finalists were chosen from 20 applications.
As an Oosting scholar, Morrell is recognized for outstanding academic ability, a demonstration of commitment to scholarly pursuits, a sincere Christian faith and service to others.
“I feel honored to be so warmly accepted into the Milligan family. I can't wait to start this chapter of my life. I am so grateful that God has made this dream possible,” said Morrell.
Morrell is the daughter of Bill and Desi Morrell of Bristol, Tenn. Her intended major is biology with plans to attend medical school following her undergraduate studies at Milligan.
Other top scholarship recipients were Brad Fisher of Plainfield, Ind., and Michael Johnston of McDonough, Ga.
Fisher, the 2007 recipient of the Beamer Scholarship, will receive $15,000 per academic year, with a four year value of $60,000. Named for Todd Beamer, whose September 11 heroics on United Airlines Flight 93 have been widely recognized, the scholarship is awarded annually to a student in high academic standing who has demonstrated leadership qualities.
Fisher is the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Fisher of Plainfield, Ind. His intended major is Bible.
Johnston is the 2007 recipient of the Hopwood Scholarship. Selected for his academic achievements, as well as community and church involvement, Johnston will receive $10,000 per academic year, with a four year value of $40,000.
Johnston is the son of Robert and Clara Johnston of McDonough, Ga. His intended major is Bible.
