Milligan asks region for examples of servant leadership
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Feb. 2, 2004) Do you know someone who is a shining example of servant-leadership beyond the walls of the church? In recent years, Milligan College has recognized doctors, teachers, business people and various professionals in our region who exemplify Christian character and service in their career and community. The college is now inviting recommendations for the 2004 Leaders in Christian Service program.
The purpose is to recognize those individuals who are doing an outstanding job of integrating their faith with their profession, said Milligan President Donald R. Jeanes. This is not an award but a way to provide examples for our community and especially to our students of what servant leadership is all about and what it can look like on a daily basis in a variety of careers.
The Leaders in Christian Service program is overseen by Milligans Institute for Servant Leadership. Institute director Beth Anderson said they look for individuals who display excellence of Christian character; strong Christian example through professional, vocational or volunteer leadership; and evidence of Christian service in the church and community.
Anderson explained that Milligan's mission and vision is to prepare servant-leaders in a variety of professions.
We are called to be ministers of Christ, whether we work on Wall Street or in a church pulpit, writes Bill McCartney in Ed Silvosos book, Anointed for Business. Whatever our calling, be it clergy, coach or accountant, our job as Christians is to help win our world to Christ and lead the way to moral restoration within our nation.
Servant leaders live out their faith in every aspect of their life and are strong Christian examples beyond the walls of the church, said Jeanes.
Recommendations for the Tri-Cities Leaders in Christian Service program will be accepted until March 1. The 2004 Leaders in Christian Service will be presented at a special convocation service at Milligan College on April 13.
More information and nomination forms are available from Milligan's website at www.milligan.edu/LCS or by calling the Institute for Servant Leadership at 423.461.8316.
