ALM provides scholarships for local students
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 14, 2004) — Lauren Anderson, a 2003 graduate of Science Hill High School, Johnson City, Tenn., was the inaugural recipient of the Associated Ladies for Milligan (ALM) scholarship.
Having introduced the scholarship program this year, ALM plans to continue to grant scholarships to incoming students in the future. One new student will be awarded the scholarship each year and will be eligible to receive funding for up to four years while they are enrolled at Milligan. Students are recommended by the Milligan admissions office and the recipient is selected by members of ALM.
Anderson is completing her freshman year at Milligan as a photography and art major. While at Science Hill, Anderson was involved with the drama club, Club 121, the art club, Girl Scouts and the choir. She also filled leadership roles in many of these organizations. In 2003, Anderson was named Homecoming Queen and Prom Queen. Additionally, she received the Kindness Award and the Pepsi Citizenship Award. Anderson also is actively involved with her church, Takoma Church of God.
Clarinda Jeanes, head of ALM, said, “We hope to involve the scholarship recipients in ALM and incorporate them into various activities that we do. We also hope to establish additional branches of ALM in different parts of the country in the next few years.”
ALM, whose mission is to raise scholarship funds for Milligan, provide outreach to the campus community and enrich women's ministry in the local communities, has been in operation for a little over a year.
