New Adult Degree Program in Early Childhood Education
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (May 24, 2006) — Milligan
College will now offer a degree completion program in early childhood
education through evening and
weekend classes.
Individuals who have completed about two years of
college can now complete their bachelor’s degree in child and youth
development in about 15 months. Teaching licensure in early childhood
education (PreK-3) may be obtained by completing additional coursework
and a 15-week supervised teaching experience in a public school setting.
“This program is ideal for people who want to teach
children in public and private schools, or to serve in leadership
positions in church-related preschools, military child development
centers, or in other early childhood programs,” said Dr. Beverly
Schmalzried, area chair and professor of education.
Similar to the college’s degree completion program
in business administration, the child and youth development major is
designed for adults who have completed 60 or more semester hours of
college credit and the equivalent of two or more years of work
experience.
Milligan maintains one of the premier teacher
education programs in the region, with public partner schools throughout
the Tri-Cities.
Accredited by the
National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)
since 1968, Milligan is one of only nine private colleges in Tennessee
who are NCATE-accredited.
