Statement about student incident

December 13, 2006

This morning around 6 a.m., a 21-year-old male student from Johnson City, Tennessee, was injured from what Elizabethton police have indicated was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident occurred in Quillen Hall, the student's residence hall. No other students were injured or involved. The student was transported by emergency services to Johnson City Medical Center where he underwent surgery and is currently in stable condition.

The student's family and minister have been notified.

The college has counselors stationed around campus, as well as faculty and staff and the campus minister available to counsel students.

The college appreciates prayers for the student and campus.
