Students kick off Homecoming with Spirit Week
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Oct. 24, 2006)
— Milligan students are
celebrating Spirit Week in preparation for the college’s Homecoming
festivities this weekend, Oct. 27-28. Students are donning costumes and
festive colors throughout the week as they celebrate the college’s
140-year history.
Homecoming kicks off Friday at 12 noon with a golf tournament at the
Elizabethton Country Club, benefiting the Milligan College men’s
basketball team. A reception for Classes of 1955 and earlier will be held
at 1:30 p.m.
Several alumni will be honored and recognized for notable achievements
Friday at the annual Celebrate Milligan dinner. John Wiggins, Class of
1961, will be named the 2006 Distinguished Alumnus. Professional
Excellence Awards will be presented to Tom Kim, Class of 1969; Cathy
Barlow, Class of 1970; and Tim Hartman, Class of 1982. The Hardin Spirit
of Milligan Award will go to Jackie Acker, Class of 1955. Butch & Billie
Dabney and their family will receive the Milligan Heritage Award. The
Athletics Hall of Fame will induct Dino Allen, Class of 1991; Linda King
Doan, former coach; and the 1998-99 Men’s Basketball Team.
A Young Alumni Social for the Classes of 1996 and later will occur at 7
p.m. Friday and a special five year reunion reception for the Class of
2001 will be held at 8, followed by a Welcome Back Bonfire for all alumni
and their families at 8:30 p.m.
The Milligan College theatre and music areas will present “The Gospel
According to Jazz” on both Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 in Seeger
Memorial Chapel. The cost of the musical is $10 and tickets may be
purchased in advance at the Milligan College Bookstore, 423.461.8733, or

Saturday will kick off with the 4th Annual ALM Scholarship 5K Run/2.5K
Walk at 9 a.m., sponsored by Saratoga and Mountain States Health Alliance.

The annual Faculty-Alumni Reception will occur Saturday morning from
9-11 a.m. in the 2nd floor lobby of Derthick Hall. All current and retired
faculty are encouraged to stop by and visit with alumni.
Lunch on Saturday is an Alumni and Student Tailgate Party from
11:30-1:30 p.m., followed by the annual Alumni vs. Students Football game
at 12 noon on Anglin Soccer Field.
The sixth annual Homecoming Parade will occur at 2 p.m., featuring
floats representing student organizations and campus sponsors. The parade
route will follow the main road through campus. A Carnival with inflatable
attractions and music will add to the fun for children from 2:30 to 4:30
p.m. on the front lawn of Derthick Hall.
Saturday afternoon's schedule is busy with class reunions for the
Classes of 1956, 1961, 1966, 1971, 1976, 1986, 1991 and 1996. A reception
for the President’s Associates will be held at the historic
Taylor/Phillips House on the Milligan campus from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m..
Saturday evening will conclude at 7:30 p.m. with the finale of “The
Gospel According to Jazz" and SUB-7 Coffeehouse at 8 p.m. for music and
coffee.
All meal events and feature event are ticketed events. All other events
are free. The Alumni Office asks that all alumni register in the McMahan
Student Center on Friday from 2:30 to 5 p.m. or Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m.
