MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Dec. 9, 2002)-Forty-six students will receive degrees this Friday, Dec. 13, at Milligan's winter commencement ceremonies in Seeger Chapel. The 45 graduates include 31 bachelor of science (B.S.) degrees, six bachelor of arts (B.A.), one master of education (M.Ed.) and eight master of science in occupational therapy (M.S.O.T.) degrees.
Dr. Patrick Kariuki, associate professor of teacher education, will provide the 7 p.m. commencement address. Kariuki is a graduate of Lee College (B.A.) and East Tennessee State University (M.A., Ed.D.). He has focused his educational career both on clinical and developmental psychology. He also brings to the teacher education faculty an interest in research related to improving classroom instruction.
While a graduate student at ETSU, Kariuki was a four-time recipient of the international academic achievement award. He is also a member of the Black Ministers Association in Tennessee and pastors the East Johnson City Church of God.
An alumni reception for family and friends of the graduates will be held in the lower level of Seeger Chapel immediately after the commencement exercises. The reception is sponsored by the Milligan College Alumni Office.
