Orchestra concert features world premiere pieces by Tennessee composers
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (November 12, 2004) —The Milligan College Orchestra
will perform world premiere pieces by two Tennessee composers: “Arioso”
by Jonathan Franklin of Johnson City and “Reflections” by Justin
Hensley, a student at East Tennessee State University.
Franklin composes various styles of music, including wedding/chamber
music, orchestra, and pieces for film and computer games. He is a former
member of the Danville Symphony Orchestra of Danville, Ill. During his
membership with the symphony, Franklin performed solos in many
selections, including Glenn Miller's “In The Mood,” Andrew Lloyd
Webber's “Phantom of the Opera,” and John Williams' “Jurassic Park.”
Hensley is the principal chair and section leader for the horn players
in the ETSU Wind Ensemble. He is originally from Marshall, N.C.
The 22-piece orchestra will also perform songs of the season, including
Corelli’s “Christmas Concerto Grosso” and Mozart’s “Toy Symphony,” which
will feature Milligan College faculty playing the toy instrument parts.
The orchestra is under the direction of Dr. Kellie Dubel Brown, director
of the strings program and chair of the music area at Milligan College.
The event will be held Friday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Seeger Chapel
