students on humanities tour

The humanities major allows students to pursue an interdisciplinary course of study within one of the following concentrations:

  • American Studies — explore the history, politics, literature, music, and art of the U.S.
  • Pre-Modern World — explore the history, literature, art and philosophy of the ancient and medieval worlds
  • Faith & Arts — explore connections between your faith and the arts
  • Religious Studies — explore theological themes from a historical, biblical, religious, or philosophical perspective

“Human skills, like leadership, communication, and problem-solving, are among the most in-demand skills in the labor market.”

Human+ Skills for the Future of Work

Humanities majors at Milligan design and carry out an extensive interdisciplinary research or creative project under the guidance of a faculty committee recruited by the student. Students are encouraged to make connections between academic disciplines and between those disciplines and their Christian faith. Although the major is not structured as a prevocational course, it does provide a broad undergraduate education from which a student can move into teaching or into several graduate programs including law. It focuses upon the great ideas that have shaped history and created contemporary civilizations.  A minor is also available.

Double Major

Enhance your academic experience and prepare for a competitive job market in today’s globalized world with a second major in the Humanities. Work closely with your advisor to stay on a four-year graduation schedule.
